Hardware
HCACS team supports all computer hardware purchased with ASU or ASU related funds. Personal computers not the property of ASU but used for ASU activities do not qualify for support. Request for a new computer should be done through the HCACS Team.
Systems and Application Support
HCACS team supports all computer hardware purchased with ASU or ASU-related funds. Personal computers not the property of ASU but used for ASU activities do not qualify for support. Request for a new computer should be done through the HCACS team.
- Software installation support - HCACS team ensures the software is installed and working properly.
- Software application support - Due to limitations on staffing and funding the HCACS team cannot provide application support. An example of an application support-type question is, "How do I do a mail merge?" Certain applications are supported by university units. The electronic messaging team supports certain email clients. For more information, please see http://www.asu.edu/support. E-Learning is also available, and information about e-Learning can be found at http://www.asu.edu/hr/training/.
- Software purchased with ASU funds, regardless of source, can only be installed on hardware owned by ASU. Please note that the purchasing of hardware, software, paper, ink/toner cartridges, etc. is the responsibility of the HCA units. We recommend you contact the HCACS team for quotes on hardware to ensure quality and low-prices.
Server Support
The Herberger College of the Arts Server Farm, currently located in the Engineering B Building, supports 28 servers used by both the college and Distance Learning. It holds several stand-alone databases, shared application, administrative data and any course materials that support Herberger Online courses and services.
An exchange account is required for access to the college's file servers. Faculty and staff may self subscribe at: http://www.asu.edu/asurite.
Students are required to fill out a Request for Computer Access at: http://www.asu.edu/it/helpdesk/forms.htm
Please contact the HCA Computer Support Team when a new employee is hired, so a folder can be created on the server and file permission granted. Also contact the HCACS team when an employee leaves so file permissions can be deleted.
Networking
The computing support team responds to calls for installation of Ethernet, and IP address management. Tampering with IP or hardware addresses through DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), firewalls, masquerading, etc. is prohibited. This university policy is outlined in ACD 125: Computer, Internet, and Electronic Communications: http://www.asu.edu/aad/manuals/acd/acd125.html.
